 BAPTISM OF FIRE

 http://wp.me/a4V5qQ-7W  Radio show 615-
I actually found a way to talk about the Mafia- and Pizza parlors in this one. As I review these old tapes- I’m surprised how many deal with Ecclesiology [the nature of Church] –
in this one I used a sort of parable from the well that Jacob fed the flocks out of- I also talked about how the women [moms] of the promised kids- were all barren.
Meaning when God made these promises that they would have many kids- he picked men/women- who had a difficult time conceiving.  The apostle Paul uses this analogy- quoting Isaiah in the book of Galatians ‘more are the children of the desolate- than of the married wife’.
In Galatians Paul says ‘see? - the children of the Promise are the heirs- not those born from the law’- these are indeed themes I have been hitting on in our videos.
So- I figured being I just reviewed this old message- might as well do a brief commentary- and post it- enjoy.
NOTE- In this post/video- I have 2- because Cameron called while I was taping- so- it stopped.
I’m glad he called- he’s heading off to greener pastures- and we will do a bon-fire going away fellowship at the beach in a few hours- might catch that on tape.

OK- last post/video I talked about John as the forerunner- he was preparing the way for the Messiah.

Now- John was the epitome of the Old Testament type prophet- if I did an entire study on Prophets- and Prophecy- we would see a difference between Old and New Testament prophets [but- New Testament prophet’s can- and often are- just as ‘strong’ as Old Testament ones- I talk about this below].

But- I don’t want to cover that now.

But- I do want you to get a feel of the Prophets-and how they functioned.

These men were called of God to speak the words of God- but also to be for signs and ‘wonders’-
They challenged corrupt kings/rulers- and like the Apostles of the New Testament- they went thru lots of trials- and were often in physical danger- for their lives.

The apostle Paul said ‘I die daily’ and in context he was talking about risking his life on a daily basis.

So- don’t get me wrong- the Prophets were not getting into fights with people [Though we do have a case or 2 were they chopped some heads off!].

But- along with their gift- there was indeed a ‘violent’ aspect- John the Baptist faced physical danger- and did get his head cut off.

Paul the apostle had multiple times where he was almost killed- and there is a passage of scripture where Paul refers to a ‘man he knew- whether in the body- or out’ where some scholars think Paul was talking about himself- after he was stoned and possibly killed- and God brought him back.

Either way- we see that with the proclamation of the Gospel- there was this ‘living on the edge’ lifestyle that went along with it.

In our day- maybe we don’t see this aspect as much- in the U.S. - but in foreign lands- many missionaries/pastors do face death threats on a daily basis.

1 It is not expedient for me doubtless to glory . I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord. 2I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell ; or whetherout of the body, I cannot tell : God knoweth ;) such an one caught up to the third heaven. 3 And Iknew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell : God knoweth ;) 4 Howthat he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for aman to utter . 2nd Cor 12

And why stand we in jeopardy every hour? 31 I protest by yourrejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily . 32 If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantageth it me, if the dead rise not? let us eat and drink ;for to morrow we die . 3

In the following verses- taken from the Prophets of the Old Testament- you can get a feel of their callings- God was cleansing them from sin- he was purifying them- so they could be an instrument of justice to those in authority- wicked rulers- etc.- and they would indeed suffer for their callings.

There are many passages- too many to copy- but I have been reading these the past few days- and thought my on-line friends might benefit.

When you [me] speak into a people group- in a way you are ‘pouring’ into the community you speak to.

God showed me years ago that the group you speak into will in a way ‘shape’- limit- or expand the message.

Now- don’t get me wrong- you should never shape your message to fit- or please men.

But what I’m talking about is if you’re speaking to a few people- or believers that are young in the Lord- then for their benefit- you speak at a level that would benefit them.

Now- the prophets were not really speaking to people in the same way the simple gift of prophecy works [1Corinthians 14:3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.]

Yet- to ‘rebuke/correct’ in love- does edify- some feel correction is not part of the New Testament gift- but in actuality- it is.

The simple gift- mentioned in Corinthians- speaks unto men to ‘edification- exhortation and comfort’.

But Prophets- especially in the Old Testament [but not limited to Old Testament prophets- this is a mistake that some who have taught on the gifts have made- understand- that the book of Revelation itself- the ‘prophetic’ book of the New Testament- though penned by an Apostle- did challenge world systems [Babylon is fallen- etc.] and was penned under the New testament gift- given to John and the others- after the ascension of Christ- they wrote these things functioning under the Spirt of God- in the ‘church’ age]- they were speaking both to God’s people- repentance- and pronouncing coming judgment on leaders- nations that forgot God.

1Corinthians 12:4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
1Corinthians 12:5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
1Corinthians 12:6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
1Corinthians 12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
1Corinthians 12:8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
1Corinthians 12:9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
1Corinthians 12:10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
1Corinthians 12:11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
1Corinthians 12:12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
1Corinthians 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down , and cast into the fire.
I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear : he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee , cut them off , and cast them from thee : it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire.
For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.
And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did? [NOTE- This verse is key- it shows you that the ‘baptism of fire’ is not destructive- in the end. But is intended to bring forth holiness. Those who do not ‘submit to the fire’ will continue to live in the lust of the flesh- and in a sense- ‘burn’ in bondage- daily].  For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but tosave them. And they went to another village.
I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I , if it be already kindled ?
If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered ; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned .
And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.
Zechariah 3:1 And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.
Zechariah 3:2 And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?
Zechariah 3:3 Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel.
Zechariah 3:4 And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment.

Zechariah 3:6 And the angel of the LORD protested unto Joshua, saying,
Zechariah 3:7 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If thou wilt walk in my ways, and if thou wilt keep my charge, then thou shalt also judge my house, and shalt also keep my courts, and I will give thee places to walk among these that stand by.
Zechariah 3:8 Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH.

Zechariah 12:5 And the governors of Judah shall say in their heart, The inhabitants of Jerusalem shall be my strength in the LORD of hosts their God.
Zechariah 12:6 In that day will I make the governors of Judah like an hearth of fire among the wood, and like a torch of fire in a sheaf; and they shall devour all the people round about, on the right hand and on the left: and Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place, even in Jerusalem.
Zechariah 12:7 The LORD also shall save the tents of Judah first, that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem do not magnify themselves against Judah.
Zechariah 12:8 In that day shall the LORD defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David; and the house of David shall be as God, as the angel of the LORD before them.
Zechariah 12:9 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.
Zechariah 12:10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.
